near the end of the day, one of the 4 of us that were in the office for most of the day  got a call from one of the ny field engineers, who told her that NY office laid off like 18 people today.  and then we found out that FL and CA offices also had layoffs,  bringing the toll to about 34 people. rarr. i dont  know what this means. this comes after hearing the first place i had my first engineering job is going down to 3 day work weeks. i know i still have a job for at least another week. i doubt they are going to cut anyone in th CT office yet, but our stuff is starting to slow down. and the other offices have been slow for a while, so thats gotta mean we are ok for a while. lets hope we got some more work up and rolling. and soon!

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Have a wonderful Cinco De Mayo everyone!

so tomorrow is me and my hubbies  2nd anniversary, and we wanted to go out to dinner. problem is i dont have a clue where we should go. its Cinco de mayo, so some of the places i really love will most likely be packed due to this margarita drinking holiday. So, any suggestions for places in central CT that we might check out?

pics of my wormies and their home. some of them tried to escape last night. im hoping they will settle down today and not try to escape, but to prevent anymore dried up crusty worms on my floor when i get home, i placed 4 small wet towels around the bin in hopes if they do escape they will stay where its moist. we shall see.

worms and earth day

i find it a little funny that my efforts to start composting have really begun today, on earth day. my worms arrived today. i was very excited. i brought home more coffee grounds, so i unloaded all the packets of those first. then i added the bottom layer of bedding that i moistened first to the bin. spread and fluffed that out. then i opened up the compost canister and sumped everything all over the bin. next i opened up the worm package and spread them out as best i could all over the food, and placed another moist bedding layer above them, and closed up teh container. about an house later i checked on them, some of them have crawled up the sides and were hanging out on the cover, lol.

hopefully i will get the hang of this and so will my worms. i think they are a little confused/ in shock still. hopefully they all survive.

i introduced a friend to vermicomposting today, think she might take a stab at it. always good to find new ways to help cut down on waste. makes me feel proud to be doing my part, even if its for selfish reasons(free compost)
